Final SketchUp Model

Separated by a generous gallery space, this building houses two studios to facilitate work spaces for Louise Bourgeois and Stelarc, two predominantly sculptural/conceptual artists. The large, free plan gallery space allows for their large works to be put on display, even simultaneously. The two studios were designed on the basis of Stelarc's 'oppressive' artwork, as evident in the simple, underground layout, and Bourgeois' ability to create a new 'environment' in her artworks, hence the segregated and elevated open space utilised as her studio.

As a first time Google SketchUp and 3D modelling software user, my first attempts at creating my model were simplistic and elementary and I still have a lot more to learn and practice. My inital model attempts, however, show a more condensed, shell-like interpretation of my eventual design.

While there has been adjustments throughout the 3D translation of my original concept and section, the building still echoes some of the geometry first established in the first studio session.

TASK: Example Video

Created by Michigan State University, this video is an exmaple of a fly through in a building which fuctions with a similar program to my own building. While some effects are unachievable at my level, the video provides inspiration as it clearly conveys the spirit of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum designed by internationally known architect, Zaha Hadid
